Is there a bag you love, an idea you have in mind, or a range you are planning and need help with? This one day master class in pattern-cutting reveals some of the secrets of the designer handbag, and shows you how to analyse different bag shapes to devise your own pattern blocks. You will discover how to:
- Translate a 2D sketch or reference into a 3D shape
- Take accurate pattern measurements
- Add reference marks, turnings and construction information
- Deal with fullness- gathers, darts and tucks
- Make patterns for linings, facings and the internal structures of a bag
Katherine will show you how to adapt your own basic block shape to make several variations of one design, by swinging seams, altering scale or adding details such as pockets, flaps and alternative closures.
Bring in a favourite bag or images of shapes you covet for inspiration, and come away with a brand new blueprint to make up. Each student will complete one or more designs on paper, and a toile in calico. Beginners welcome.
