Experiment with acid etching to create interesting finishes on copper and silver sheet, in this fun workshop with
Sally Lees. Bring in some inspirational images as starting points, and develop a series of hand-drawn designs to create patterns in the metal.
During the weekend, you will:
- Explore the graphic possibilities for metal etching
- Develop suitable designs from sketches and other source materials
- Learn to make 'stop out' barriers, using various mediums (varnish, bitumen-based liquid or beeswax)
- Use nitric acid to etch them into the metal
The first day will be spent mastering the techniques involved, and developing a range of different sample ideas. On the second day, you will choose your favourite samples and make them up into one or more finished pieces of jewellery. (This course does not cover photo-etching).
No experience necessary. This course is suitable for jewellers with some experience , wishing to add to their skill set, but is also open to beginners.
