Enter the whimsical world of textile artist
Abigail Brown!
Abigail is becoming well-known for her fragile, delicately-observed textile creatures and nostalgic wall-pieces, created using a quirky and playful visual language, reminiscent of a childhood that she holds very dear.
During the weekend, you will explore a repertoire of techniques for hand and machine-embroidery, layering and appliqué, and create your own illustrative textile, soft sculpture or more functional piece, it is up to you! Abigail will demonstrate her love of haberdashery, and share her approach to colour, pattern and texture.
Materials and image references will be provided, but students are encouraged to bring in buttons, threads, old clothing, images and scraps of fabrics that have memories attached, to fuel the sewing extravaganza.
Working this way will create a truly personal piece of fabric art or contemporary decoration to take away.
