Discover how to impart permanent three-dimensional effects into synthetic fibres (including gauzes and metallics) with textile alchemist,
Arantza Vilas.
Using a combination of bizarre objects - coins, beans, chick peas, tin foil, rubber bands - arantza will show you step-by-step how to apply manipulation techniques such as crushing, tying and binding, and use heat to create wonderful new effects in man-made fabrics such as polyester, and transform existing garments or objects.
Arantza Vilas creates distinctive, multi-purpose textiles that navigate between the worlds of art & design. Her work combines printing and shibori with vintage detailing to obtain delicate and memorable results. Recent projects include costume textiles for the films: Skellig, and The Phantom of the Opera.
By the end of the two days, you will have produced your own set of samples and applied your ideas to a mini project for a scarf, piece of textile jewellery or other fabric adornment to take away, as well as learning how to make the most of every day resources so that you can continue to work at home.
